  • ARM64

Three new X/Winteracter implementations targeting the ARM64 architecture:

    • Support for GNU gfortran on macOS, running on "Apple Silicon" ARM64-based processors. Both the supplied library and visual tools are compiled to run on macOS/arm64, without the need for execution via Rosetta 2.
    • Support for both GNU gfortran and LLVM Flang on Linux, running on ARM64-based processors (a.k.a. AArch64). Again, both the library and visual tools are ARM64 based.
    • The ARM64-based macOS and Linux implementations are supplied as separate downloads from the existing Intel/AMD based equivalents, so there are now a total of five different Winteracter packages available, depending on target operating system and architecture.
    • New ARM64-based builds have been added to the Open Motif library download page, for macOS and Linux.
    • WiDE adds support for each of these three new implementations (i.e. GNU+macos/arm64, GNU+Linux/arm64 and Flang+Linux/arm64).
  • Linux/x86_64

Two new X/Winteracter implementations for Linux on AMD64/Intel 64 processors.

    • Support for AMD Fortran, as shipped with AOCC 5.x ("AMD Optimizing C/C++ and Fortran Compiler"). The AMD Fortran compiler is currently based on Flang 17 (a.k.a "Classic Flang").
    • Support for LLVM Flang 20/21 (known until recently as "flang-new"). Follow these links for LLVM Flang documentation and binaries.
    • The Linux/x86_64 version of WiDE adds support for both the above compilers.
  • Fonts
    • The predefined fonts supported by editor windows have been expanded and aligned with those supported by graphics text.
    • The six predefined font types supported for graphics text and editor windows are now end-user redefinable via X resources or XWintConf, on Linux/macOS. This is particularly relevant on Linux, where installed fonts vary significantly between distros.
  • Licensing
    • Licences are no longer tied to specific platforms. Any valid 16.0 licence can now be used to download and install on any of the five supported platforms. Simply choose your target platform from the radio button on the Download page.
    • Unsupported licences can now be requested here. These provide access to versions for any platform, but without email support or the ability to post in the forum.
  • Numerous X/Winteracter fixes.
  • Clang options expanded in WiDE, on macOS and Linux.
